Five Steps of Salvation

Step One - The first step of salvation is to realize that you are a sinner.

Romans 3:23 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". Your sinful nature separates you from God. The Bible explains this by saying, "your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you. . . ." (Isaiah 59:2). You must understand that you are sinful and that your sins separate you from God.

Step Two - The second step is to recognize that there is a penalty for your sins that must be paid: eternal separation from God is an eternity spent in Hell.

Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Your sinful nature comes with an eternal punishment, separation from God.

Step Three - Third, you must realize that Christ has already paid the penalty for your sins.

Even though you are a sinner, the Bible tells us that God loved you so much that He gave His own Son to die in your place and pay the penalty for your sins. Romans 5:8, "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Although we cannot understand how, God said that our sins were laid upon Jesus when He died in our place.

Step Four - The fourth step is to repent and believe.

Christ will gladly save those who accept His free gift of salvation. To receive this gift, you must do two things. First, you must repent. Acts 17:30 states, ". . . God . . . commands all people everywhere to repent." To repent means to turn around. You turn from living your life the way you want and start living like God wants you to live. It is a change of mind followed by a change in behavior. Secondly, you must believe. Acts 16:31 says, "And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved". Simply believe that Jesus bore your sins and died in your place, that He was buried, and that He rose again.

Step Five - Finally you must call upon Him to save you.

If you have repented and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, then all that remains for you to do is simply call on Him to save you. "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13) Pray to the Lord. Acknowledge that you are a sinner. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and to come into your heart and save you. If you believe these things, you can become a Christian and be what the Bible calls saved.
